Arnold & Son, one of the boutique names of high-end luxury watchmaking, is the guest of our Hands On corner once again with the Double Tourbillon Escapement 18K White Gold model from the brand’s Instrument Collection product line.
Arnold & Son, which introduced many important models that can be listed under the high-end luxury watchmaking title especially in recent years, is reinforcing its place among the unchanging names of its segment every day. The brand, which attracted great attention from watch lovers with its product range ranging from classic dress watches to fascinating examples of Métiers d’Art style, is under the spotlight today with the Double Tourbillon Escapement 18K White Gold (Ref. 1DTAW.S01A.C121W) model.
Arnold & Son Double Tourbillon Escapement product line includes a pair of models as an 18K red gold and an 18K white gold version. Both being limited to 28 units only, we have the 18K white gold version (Ref. 1DTAW.S01A.C121W) for review.
The model comes in an 18K white gold case measuring 43.5mm diameter. Despite being a quiet bold looking timepiece with its size as well as its domed and double side anti-glare coated scratch resistant sapphire crystal and thin bezel, the model still looks a tad more modest than its 18K red gold brother. The case is fully mirror polished and is equipped with a pair of winding crowns located at 1 and 7 o’clock. Featuring a sapphire crystal display case back, the case is water resistant to 30 meters / 3 bars.
The dial of the model seems to be designed for the symmetry lovers like me. Two Tourbillon cages are placed at 3 and 9 o’clock while the sub-dials for time displays are located at 12 and 6 o’clock. The sub-dial are differentiated from each other with their index fonts as Arabic and Roman numerals, which is a practical way to read the required time zone. The background that hosts the Tourbillons and sub-dials is silvery opaline with vertically applied Côtes de Genève motif offers an elegant presence.
Arnold & Son Double Tourbillon Escapement is powered by the fully manufacture Caliber A&S 8513 movement. 42 jewels manual winding movement beats at a frequency of 21.600vph and offers a power reserve of 90 hours thanks to its twin barrels. Besides the dual time zone display (GMT) feature, the movement is equipped with double Tourbillon escapements.
The model comes with a hand-stitched black alligator strap secured by an Arnold & Son signed folding clasp made of 18K white gold.
