Blancpain is a brand that I absolutely respect ... And its place in the watch industry is also unquestionable ... But in my own way, Fifty Fathoms is the only collection I really like. In the article we published recently about the next James Bond watch, my choice was a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms models as well.

However, after seeing the Villeret Collection during our visit to the brand’s exhibition booth at Baselworld 2017, I could say that my thoughts about the brand completely changed. Specifically, I loved the Ref. 6637-3631-55B model.

Of course there are some reasons why I feel the same excitement for a dressy and complicated Villeret model with a classic diver’s watch like the Fifty Fathoms. First, the model is designed in a very minimalistic way. Despite being a complicated model, the watch is quite simple and functional. It is highly refined and free of unnecessary details. One of the other features that drew my attention is the pusher placed between the lugs -a common detail throughout the collection.

The model is offered in a 42mm 18K red gold case which successfully presents the Blancpain quality and craftsmanship. The case, which sports double sapphire crystals on both sides, look a tad bigger that it really is thanks to its short lugs, fully mirror polished surfaces and thin bezel. With the addition of the porcelain white enamel dial, it is almost impossible to hide the watch. Though its introduction to the world of watchmaking was centuries ago, the enamel dials are becoming popular again as there are several major brands producing modern enamel dial timepieces. The enamel dial gets its final pure white look after several heat treatment processes. In this model, all the symbols on the dial are printed.

The most striking feature in the model’s dial is undoubtedly the calendar function ... The day function is displayed through a sub-dial placed at clock 9. The date display is placed at 6 o’clock in Big Date style. In addition to these features, there is also a month indicator that works with a blued hand inspired by the Serpent (snake) figure.

It may sound a bit confusing as described, but the simple and refined design I mentioned at the beginning of my writing is exactly kick in at this point because Blancpain Villeret Ref. 6637-3631-55B offers a very clear dial arrangement.

The model is powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber Ref.37382G. Self-winding movement features 378 parts including three barrels which provide a power reserve of 8 days when fully wound. The movement can be enjoyed through the transparent caseback.

Blancpain Villeret Ref. The 6637-3631-55B comes on a hand-sewn brown alligator strap. The strap is secured by an 18K red gold folding clasp.

The model is the perfect choice for the watch aficionados with a strong taste for classic complications in oversized cases. Blancpain Villeret Ref. The 6637-3631-55B is an amazing watch that deserves to be seen in person.
