Breitling AVI REF.765 1953 Re-Edition

Breitling is getting ready to accompany nostalgia-loving watch lovers with the reproduction model of AVI REF.765, which is of great importance for its history.

When we look at the 1950s, we encounter two iconic models in the history of Breitling: Navitimer and REF. 765 AVI. Both models engraved their names in gold letters to the brand's history with their strong designs, characteristic details, and functional structures. The legendary pilot watches AVI Ref. 765 comes to life again in 2020 with modern production techniques and design details that are true to its core.

The new Breitling AVI REF. 765, 67 years after its first launch, comes in a 41mm x 11mm case available in stainless steel, 18K rose gold and platinum. The only comment that can be made for the 41mm measure is flawless. We are sure that this watch, which can be worn comfortably in many wrists from small to big, impresses with its perfect size. For the stainless steel version, the weight of 75 grams, excluding the strap, is also within reasonable limits. The case is equipped with a plastic crystal on the front side, which is resistant to shatter but also prone to scratches. Although it was chosen to refer to the AVI REF 765 model, I think it would be more functional to use plastic-looking sapphire crystal. The case features a solid case back and resists water pressure up to 30 meters. Details on the dial and bezel are harmonious with the original model. The 12-hour scale, the bezel fixed on the case, the tri-compax chronograph placement and even the locations of the chronograph counters are the same.

The watch comes to life with the manufacture hand-wound Caliber B09. The 39-jewels movement operates at 28800vph and has a 70-hour power reserve. The fact that the movement is hand-wounded not only reinforces the nostalgic appearance of the watch but also contributes to the thinness of the case. Interval time measurement can be done easily with the small seconds at 9 o'clock, 6 hours totalizer at 6 o'clock and 15 minutes counter at 3 o'clock.

The model comes on a yellow lining black calfskin strap. A standard buckle made from the same material as the case accompanies the 22mm strap. Unfortunately, Breitling AVI REF.765 1953 Re-Edition is a limited edition watch. I believe those who are not in a hurry to buy the watch will likely be exposed to labels that are well above the list price in the future. The list price is 7.900 CHF for the stainless steel version, 21.000 CHF for the 18K rose gold version and 39.000 CHF for the platinum version. Production numbers are 1953 (stainless steel), 253 (18K rose gold) and 153 (platinum), respectively. Behind every model is the phrase "One of XXXX".
