The new model, which is introduced as a part of the SuperOcean Héritage Collection that became an instant favorite among watch enthusiasts with its design inspired by Breitling’s rich archive, attracts attention with its relatively compact case, new ceramic bezel insert and stunning blue dial.
Despite being largely overshadowed by the cult models like Rolex Submariner, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and Omega Seamaster, the Breitling Superocean actually has a long-established history. The early versions of the model, which are more like Breitling’s response to the diver’s watch hype of the late 1950’s, are being shown among the most iconic diver’s watches by many collectors.
The Superocean Héritage collection, which has been added to the Breitling product line a few years ago due to the unbelievably successful Heritage and Re-Issue trends, continues to attract attention from watch aficionados as a modern adaptation of this iconic model.
The model we have here from the Superocean Héritage Collection that had its 2nd generation series is the Breitling Superocean Héritage II B20 Automatic 42 Stainless Steel-Gun Blue version.
The new model is offered in a case that can be considered relatively compact with a diameter of 42mm. The case features the Superocean Héritage Collection’s signature style with all polished surfaces and thick lugs. Equipped with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal on the front side and a Breitling style solid stainless steel case back at the rear side, the case is water resistant to 200 meters. Breitling signed large winding crown looks in harmony with Vintage vibe of the model.
Unlike the early models with aluminum inserts, the coin edge style bezel is now equipped with a ceramic insert. The ceramic insert is highly durable to scratches when compared to the aluminum type obviously, but I believe the visual appearance of the aluminum insert is a better match with the rest of this Retro-inspired timepiece.
One of the most remarkable parts of the model is undoubtedly its blue dial. This blue tone, which is referred to as Gun Metal Blue in the Breitling product line, gives the model a remarkably cool image with its Sun Ray surface form.
Baton style indexes are accompanied by thick sword-style hands. The date display is located at 6 o’clock. With the SuperLumiNOVA phosphor material application, the dial offers excellent legibility in almost any environment.
The new model is powered by the Caliber Breitling 20 -a manufacture movement based on Tudor’s Caliber MT5612. 28 jewels self-winding movement beats at 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a power reserve of 70 hours when fully wound.
Breitling Superocean Héritage II B20 Automatic 42 Stainless Steel-Gun Blue stainless steel is offered with a mesh bracelet (like the one we have here for review) or a mesh-style blue rubber strap.
