Seiko is expanding the Seiko 5 Sports series with a new limited edition model, which aims to offer an unrivaled price/performance ratio by blending different colors and materials with the legendary diver's watch design.
Based on the entry-level mechanical platform of the famous brand, the Seiko 5 Sports product line is among the favorites of not only watch lovers but also almost everyone who wants to have a stylish and practical mechanical watch that can be used in any environment at an affordable price. The collection, which strengthens its hand in price/performance with the updates it has in terms of materials and design, sometimes hosts limited or special production models as well. A new limited edition model added to the collection, Ref. SRPJ79, is dedicated to Ultraseven, a spin-off of Japan's cult TV series Ultraman.
Before moving on to the model, let's briefly talk about Ultraman and Ultraseven, which we have seen being mentioned in different brands before. Ultraman and many of its spin-offs, including Ultraseven, dating from the 1960s to the present, are among the cult productions of Japanese TV. The production, which includes giant monsters destroying the city, alien invasions, and more with effects that are rather weak for today's conditions but fairly practical for their time, the production is known as a Tokusatsu show. This superhero character, who visited the world from Nebula M78, which was very popular between 1966 and 1987, remains popular even today in many different cultures, not only within Japanese culture.
The new model comes in a stainless steel case with a diameter of 42.5mm and a height of 13.4mm. The sporty case, which has Hardlex crystal on the front and a black insert diver bezel, is equipped with a crystal case back with the Ultraman figure. Equipped with a screw-down crown, the case is waterproof up to 100 meters.
The stylish model hosts a silver-colored dial with a sunray background pattern. Bold hands and markers, along with a contrasting black minute scale, allow time to be read. At the same time, dial components with LumiBrite filling offer sufficient legibility even in low-light environments. The day/date indicator is located at 3 o'clock.
Caliber 4R36, one of the brand's modern entry-level mechanics, is employed in the new model. Working at a frequency of 3Hz (21600vph), the automatic movement offers 41 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
The interesting model is accompanied by a black, white, and gray striped NATO-style strap with "Terrestrial Defense Force" written on it. The model, whose price has not yet been determined, is limited to 3400 units.
