Chopard L.U.C Lunar Twin White Gold (Ref. 161934-1001)

Chopard continues to be among the indispensable names of designs ahead of their time with its asymmetric moon phase indicator model L.U.C Lunar Twin White Gold.

The moon phase indicator is a feature that appeals to visuals and even emotions beyond functionality, as in many complications considering practicality. A stylish moon phase disc is a remarkable detail that can turn even the simplest watch into an eye-catching timepiece.

The L.U.C Lunar Twin model, which is the guest of our review corner, is also an interesting design that focuses on the moon phase feature bringing the L.U. Chopard perspective to the complication.

The model comes in two case options as 18K white gold and yellow gold. The model we have here for review is the 18K white gold version. Measuring 40mm in diameter and 9.7mm in height, the case offers a full wrist presence. Equipped with sapphire crystals on both sides, the case hosts a recessed pusher at 9 o’clock for moon phase adjustment. The rest of the functions are set by the L.U.C signed winding crown.

The L.U.C Lunar Twin comes with a silver dial. The most striking feature of the model is also hidden in the dial. Chopard placed the moon phase indicator at 1 o'clock, which is not a common position. The moon phase status of the Northern Hemisphere can be read directly from the silver moon motif, while the Southern Hemisphere can be read with a silver arrow. Therefore, you can monitor the moon phase situation in two different hemispheres from the same indicator.

The dial, which features a small second’s display at 6 o'clock, is accompanied by rhodium-plated dauphine-type hands. On the background, which offers a lively image with sunbeam pattern outward from the center, there are applique hour markers with polished Roman numerals. At 4 o'clock, there is the window for the date display.

The model beats with the manufacture L.U.C Caliber 96.21-L. Self-winding movement, wound by a 22K solid gold micro-rotor, requires adjustment once every 122 years with its ultra-precise 135 teeth wheel driving the moon phase disc. The movement, operating at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph), can offer up to 65 hours of power reserve thanks to the co-axial twin-barrel system. The COSC certified movement dazzles with its carefully applied Côtes de Geneve patterns and hand-beveled bridges.
