Chopard, which has been offering exclusive timepieces with Urishi style dials inspired by the traditional Chinese Zodiac, introduced a new unique timepiece designed in accordance with this concept.
The brand, which has been highly acclaimed with its unique model featuring the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac as well as the “Day of the Dead” edition exclusively designed to be offered during Latin America Region’s No.1 luxury watch trade show SIAR in Mexico, introduced another spectacular timepiece for the upcoming Chinese Year of the Pig for 2019.
The model, which is equipped with extraordinary details that bring together the traditional luxury watchmaking and superior craftsmanship, is presented in an 18K pink gold case. Speaking of which, Chopard made a courageous commitment to use 100% ethical gold in its jewelry and watches by July 2018. Ethical gold is defined by Chopard “as gold acquired from responsible sources, verified as having met international best practice environmental and social standards”.
The case measures 43mm in diameter and 15.02mm in height. Thanks to the Mains d’Art team of the brand, the case hosts meticulously hand-crafted figures of the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac. To assume the craftsmanship’s superiority, just think about the 210-hours labor spent to finish the engravings on the sides of the case. The case is equipped with anti-glare coated scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and is water resistant to 30 meters.
The model’s dial is also made of 18K gold as expected. All of the details that are designed in maze-like geometric shapes are hand-crafted. The Dauphine style hands used in the dial that included features like perpetual calendar, day, month, leap year and 12/24 hour indicator besides Tourbillon, which is also located in the 6 o’clock position and at the same time serving as a small second indicator, are covered with phosphorus material in order to increase readability.
The effort and care spent for the movement are no less than the case and the dial. The model is powered by the manufacture, of course, Caliber L.U.C 02.15-L, consisting of 353 individual parts. The hand-wound movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a massive 216-hour power reserve thanks to its four barrels.
Let us add that the movement both chronometer-certified by the COSC and awarded the Poinçon de Genève hallmark, one of the most prestigious standardization institutions of Swiss Watchmaking.
