Chopard L.U.C. XP (Ref. 168592-3002)

Chopard’s high-end luxury watchmaking division, L.U.C., is appealing to those who want to enjoy quality off the radars with its new XP model.

L.U.C XP Collection was debuted in 2006 and hosted the model that won the same year’s GPHG – ultra-thin watch category. The model family, which was re-introduced to the likes of watch enthusiasts in 2017, is under the spotlight with its fascinating blue-themed version.

The new model is offered in a 40mm x 7.2mm stainless steel case that is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. In fact, 40mm diameter is not the best size for a dress watch. Similarly, a total height of 7.2mm is not suitable for a model launched in the ultra-thin segment either. The interesting part is both those dimensions work in a perfect harmony at the new Chopard L.U.C. XP. Features like the small winding crown, rounded lugs and the high quality feel provided by fine details express the meaning of L.U.C. The case is water resistant to 30 meters.

In the dial, we see a set of hands and hour markers made of pink gold. Frankly speaking, I would never like the pink gold tone on a stainless steel model with a blue dial. However, Chopard L.U.C. XP proves me to be in the wrong once again. There is no sort of phosphor material applied to the dial/accents.

Chopard L.U.C. XP is powered by the manufacture Caliber 96.53 L. 27 jewels micro rotor self-winding movement is only 3.3mm thick. The movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800vph) and offers a power reserve of 58 hours when fully wound. The basic and simple design language of the case and in the dial that even lacks the most common complications like the small seconds or date display window is not seen in the movement side. Apparently, Chopard included all its brand heritage and expertise in movement design and decoration for this model.

I think the strap offered by the model is one of the most striking details. The strap is made of blue Merino wool applied over a cognac colored alligator lining. Offering both quality and comfort at the same time, the strap is secured by a stainless steel buckle.
