Doxa, one of the classic names of "vintage diver" style models, especially with its orange dial color and cushion case, introduced the current version of the prototype model Sub 300 Black Lung, which was announced half a century ago.
In fact, the Doxa Sub 300 "Black Lung" is not really a Re-Issue, because the original model was only produced as a prototype. It is assumed that the model, which was separated from the standard version with the darkened Aqua Lung logo on the dial, was produced about 20 pieces and sold as a trial order. Later, the model has been named as Doxa Sub 300T (T stands for the Tritium material used in hands and indices), and became one the most iconic diver watches of all time.
üThe new model bears great resemblance with the original version. The cushion shaped case is made of stainless steel and it measures 42.5mm in diameter and 13.4mm in height. The case offers a balanced vintage feel with its curved sapphire crystal and serrated diver’s bezel on the front side. Accompanied by a screw-in winding crown with Doxa logo and a caseback with a classic sail boat illustration, the case is water resistant to 200 meters.
The dial of the model also shows great similarities with the original version. The Doxa classic orange dial features black and white colored contrasting thick hands and indices which are covered with SuperLuminova phosphorus material for improved legibility at darker environments. The famous black Aqua Lung logo is placed between 7 and 8 o’clock while the date display rests at 3 o’clock.
The model is powered by the industries work horse movement ETA 2824-2. Certified by COSC for accuracy, the movement features a Doxa signed oscillating rotor, blued screws and Cotes de Genève decorations –although covered by the solid caseback.
On the model is a multi-piece stainless steel bracelet -a classical complement of Doxa diver models. The bracelet is secured with a Doxa signed folding clasp with hidden diver’s extension.
The new model is available for pre-order through Doxa’s official web site with a MSRP of 2190, 00 USD. Doxa Sub 300 “Black Lung” is limited to a span of 300 units only. The timepieces will be delivered by December 2017.
