Although complications are still among the most important elements that define this phenomenon for traditional luxury watchmaking, the "usability" part of the case has already lost its priority... Today, I don't think anyone looks at his/her wristwatch to check the phases of the moon or leap years. However, some complications can still take place within the usability limits. One of the best examples of these is the world time feature. This complication, which is presented to watch lovers with its practicality and multiple display styles, is the guest of our pages today through the perspective of the young brand Frederique Constant.
The model comes in a stylish yet modern case with a diameter of 42mm and a height of 12.1mm. The case, sporting a curved sapphire crystal on the front side and a sapphire crystal case back on the rear side, features a dome-shaped crown, which operates all the functions of the watch. The 18K rose gold case, which consists of completely polished surfaces, is resistant to water pressure up to 30 meters.
The dial of the model hosts details that present the world time feature to its user in a classic way. In the center of the dial, which is designed with a dark blue tone, there is a world map created in grayscale on blue. The date feature is displayed with a sub-dial and a pointer hand positioned at 6 o'clock. While the time in major cities is displayed by the two scales on the outer part of the dial, the day/night distinction is viewed from the red/gray colored disc located just inside the city disc. Thanks to Super-LumiNOVA filled hands and indexes, time reading can also be done in darker environments.
The Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture beats by the Caliber FC-718 movement, which was developed and produced entirely in-house, as indicated in the model’s name. 26-jewels automatic movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers up to 38 hours of power reserve when fully wound. Decorated with perlage and circular Côtes de Genève motifs, all functions of the movement can be adjusted with the single winding crown.
The stylish model is accompanied by a navy blue strap decorated with contrasting white stitches and a matching folding clasp inspired by the brand’s emblem. The model, which is limited to 88 units only, available at 16,995.00 CHF.
