A new addition to the ongoing launches prior to the upcoming Baselworld came from Glashütte Original, a well-established German brand in the industry. The brand introduced the stainless steel version of its Glashütte Original Senator Cosmopolite which stands out with its informative yet user friendly World Time function.
Introducing the stainless steel version of a model which is offered only in precious metal cases like gold and/or Platinum, are becoming more like an accepted strategy for luxury watchmaking brands. The latest introduction in this regard came from Glashütte Original. The famous German brand offered its Senator Cosmopolite model, which is highly acclaimed with its easy to use multi-function World Timer feature, in a stainless steel case to be officially launched at the upcoming Baselworld 2018.
Besides being in the brand’s product line since 2015, the model was available only in 18K white or pink gold.
Sharing many details with the rest of the model family, Senator Cosmopolite Stainless Steel comes in a stainless steel case measuring 44mm in diameter and 14mm in height. Like the previous versions, the case is equipped with AR coated scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and it is water resistant to 50 meters.
The new model ticks with the in-house Caliber 89-02, as it is in 18K white and pink gold versions. 63 jewels hand-wound movement beats at 4Hz and offers 72 hours (3 days) power reserve when fully wound. The movement attracts attention with its World Time function which can display 36 different time zones (unlike the standard 24) while hosting other features like day/night indicator, power reserve indicator and the panoramic date display which became more like a signature detail for the brand.
Although the model shares the same platform with the other versions in terms of dial lay-out, some visual updates have been made for the new model. First, the time markers, which were written in Roman numerals, are updated with large Arabic numerals that provide a clearer legibility and more functional use. The day/night indicator disc is also simplified by removing the blue back ground of the night half, which helped the white dial to feature a simpler, clearer look.
Considering the multi-function World Time feature of the model, the previous version were already offered with simple looking dials. The stainless steel version took the dial design to a next step where it barely reveals the complications under.
The new model comes on a Louisiana Alligator leather strap in blue measuring 21mm/18mm. The strap is secured with a stainless steel folding clasp (pin-buckle also available).
Prices are EUR 20,700 (buckle) - EUR 21,000 (clasp).
