The new Grand Seiko Omiwatari SBGY013 takes its place in the Elegance collection and brings a vibrant white alternative to the light blue tones of the original model (SBGY007) introduced in 2021. The brand, which is not limited to the dial color in the changes section, also offers a brand-new steel bracelet with the SBGY013 model.

Before moving on to the new model, let's briefly talk about the name given to the series. “Omiwatari” refers to the icy layer that forms on the surface of Suwa Lake when its waters freeze in winter. Legend has it that this layer shows where the gods walked on the water, and thus Omiwatari (御神渡り - literally means "gods’ passage".

Let's go back to the new model. The Grand Seiko SBGY013 Omiwatari comes in an elegant case with a diameter of 38.5mm and a height of 10.2mm. The stylish case with a diagonal lug distance of 43.7mm promises a comfortable experience on the wrist. The case, which is made of stainless steel, has sapphire crystals on both sides. Although the ice-cold lake detail, which is the subject of the charismatic name of the model, may make you think otherwise, the elegant model is only splash-resistant.

One of the main innovations of the model, the textured snow-white dial features sharp markers and Dauphine-style hands, as well as an applique Grand Seiko logo. Of course, when the subject of the review is a Grand Seiko model, it should be underlined how sharply and perfectly the hands are produced. The blue-toned seconds hand adds movement to the dial with the balanced contrast it creates.

A Spring Drive type movement, which is the brand's own patented movement platform, gives life to the new model. The hand-wound and 30-jewel Caliber 9R31 can offer up to 72 hours of power reserve thanks to its double barrel architecture. Equipped with the unique flowing second hand of the movement group, the high-tech movement works with a daily accuracy of +/- 1s and can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back.

The stylish model comes with a brand-new metal bracelet. Consisting of 9-piece links, the stainless steel bracelet offers harmony with the elegant and classic character of the model by its Beads of Rice style design. The bracelet, which we are confident to successfully balance the 10.2mm total thickness of the model with its thinned link form, is fixed to the wrist with a GS-signed clasp.
