Hands On: Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Power Reserve

Hands On: Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Power Reserve

I would like to start with the case. The version I have here is sports the two-tone design by having stainless steel and 18K rose gold at the same time. There are also all stainless steel and titanium/18K rose gold combination versions are present.

The case measures 42mm diameter which I found it to be my optimal case size for a modern men’s watch. Having a thickness of 14mm, the case provides the required wearing comfort effortlessly.

The watch sports double sapphire crystals on both sides. The front crystal is domes and AR coated on both sides allowing the user to read the time easily on every angle.

WR100M rating is more than enough for a watch like that.

The winding crown and chronograph pushers are also made of 18K rose gold. The Zenith Star on the winding crown is a cool detail.

The dial of the watch is simply beautiful and full of different design details. The “ open heart “ lay out allows the user to see the movement’s balance wheel right through a window at 9 o’clock position. While watching the heart beats of the El Primero movement you are also welcomed to see the embedded small second hand as well.

I have a cream dial timepiece here however, black and blue dials are also available offered with different hand set and index versions. The 18K rose gold accents on the dial match with the two-tone design perfectly.

The dial also houses a power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock position and a 30 minutes counter at 3 o ‘clock position. Chronograph function is completed with the Tachymeter scale around the dial.

The power reserve indicator hand and second hand are designed in a striking blue color. Like the winding crown, the second hand has the Zenith Star detail as well.

The dial may seem a bit busy at the first glance however, the lay out features a balanced harmony and the contrast color combination helps the readability significantly.

The accents on the dial features SuperLuminova SLC C1 material for better night time visibility.

The watch is powered with a fully in-house manufactured El Primero movement Caliber 4021 which can be seen through the transparent case back. The movement beats at 36.000vph and offers 50h power reserve when fully wound. Caliber 4021 features the classic Cotes de Genève decoration and a Zenith Star signed oscillating rotor.

I am sure the proud owners will turn the watch back and watch the stunning movement frequently.

The version I have here is listed as Ref. 51.2080.4021/01.C494. While this particular timepiece is offered on a brown crocodile strap, there are also black and blue strap versions available depending on the model. The Zenith Star is also applied on the nice folding clasp as well.
