In a tradition dating back to 2006, IWC has announced its annual release of a special-edition timepiece to support the charitable efforts of Laureus Sport for Good in its stated mission of “using sport to transform the lives of children and young people and end violence, discrimination, and disadvantage.”
The new model, also has the distinction of being the first in the series to pair the hallmark Laureus Blue dial with a case made of tough, scratch-resistant ceramic.
The deep blue color of the 41 mm case is achieved in a complex manufacturing process where powdered zirconium oxide is mixed with other metallic oxides, and then the mixture is shaped and sintered in a furnace. There is a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the front of the 11.4mm thick case. On the back of my case, there is an illustration signed by 12-year-old Melissa Mejia Castilla, who won the competition organized by IWC and “Laureus Sport for Good”. Equipped with a screw-lock crown, the case is waterproof up to 100 meters.
The new model sports a blue dial that is associated with the “Laureus Sport for Good”. There is a date window at the 3 o'clock position of the dial, which features large numeral indices and sword style hands.
The model takes its power from the Caliber 32111 movement. The automatic movement offers a power reserve of 5 days/120 hours thanks to its special barrel system.
The model, which is limited to only 750 pieces, is offered for sale with a blue rubber strap with textile inlay.
