IWC presented its new model, designed in cooperation with its long-term brand partner, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One, to watch lovers.
When it comes to watches and motorsports, one of the first associations that comes to mind is the one between IWC and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One. The exclusive models designed and produced by two famous names who have been collaborating for a long time continue to be on the radar of many enthusiasts, especially watch collectors, who are devoted to this hobby.
The duo, who once again met watch enthusiasts with a new model this year, followed a slightly different path this time in terms of both style and the way they represent the collaboration. The new model is called the Team Watch, a first in the history of the brand partnership. The meaning of this is: This new model will be worn by designers, aerodynamics experts, racing engineers, strategists, and even mechanics who service cars, in short, everyone in the team. But don't worry, IWC also offers this model for sale on www.iwc.com . By the way, the model is not a limited edition. It's a Special Edition.
As the name suggests, the new model brings together the colors of the famous F1 team with the pilot's watches, the brand's core focus for the past few years. When we think of the previous models that came out of the IWC and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One partnership, I'm sure we all think of the Ingenieur models that we remember with their angular lines and integrated straps. This time, the brand has brought together the adrenaline-filled world of Formula 1 with the classic pilot chronograph concept. Let's take a closer look at the resulting model.
The sporty model comes with a case designed with a diameter of 41mm and a height of 14.6mm, which we will remember from different versions of the brand's current collection of pilot's watches. Grade 5 titanium alloy, one of the indispensable materials of motorsports, is the case material. As we mentioned in our past conversations and articles, titanium grabbed the attention of luxury watch manufacturers in recent years despite being used in the watch industry for a long time. We are sure that we will see this unique metal, which stands out with its lightness and corrosion resistance, in many more new models. There is an AR-coated and domed sapphire crystal resistant to sudden pressure drops on the front face of the case. The elegant case with a sapphire crystal display on the case back is waterproof up to 100 meters with the help of the screw-down crown.
Another feature that distinguishes the new model from the standard versions is the dial design. The vibrant green tone, now known as Petronas green, which has become the signature of the F1 team, is used on all hands, markers, and indices on the Tri-Compax chronograph layout dial. This tone, which finds its place even in the fonts of the day and date discs, offers perfect contrast with the matte black background, allowing the dial to be read quickly and clearly.
IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 Edition Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team is powered by the in-house Caliber 69385 movement. The automatic movement with a column-wheel integrated chronograph function displays hours, minutes, small seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters along with the day and date features. The 33-jewels movement beats at 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a power reserve of 46 hours when fully wound.
The new model added to the Special Edition product line comes with a black embossed calf leather strap and a Petronas green rubber strap. The bands, both equipped with the brand's integrated EasX-CHANGE system, are secured to the wrist with an IWC signed titanium folding clasp.
The list price for the model, which is available through www.iwc.com , is EUR 8,350.
