Spectacular cases, bold designs, baguette-cut diamonds... Jacob & Co’s Epic X Chrono series dedicated to Messi attracts attention with every detail.
The Epic X Chrono product line, which also represented the brand in the recently finalized Only Watch 2019 auction, is home to a rich range of models distinguished by material and color palette options. The version we opted for our review belongs to the series dedicated to the famous Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi.
Combining Jacob & Co.’s superior artisanship and bold design details, the model comes with a magnificent case measuring 47mm in diameter and 15mm I height. The modular architecture of the case, consisting of 61 components, combines Grade 5 titanium, 18K white gold and polished white ceramic materials under the same roof. The highlight of the case is the 18K white gold bezel set with a total of 4.55 carats / 36 baguette-cut diamonds. Equipped by sapphire crystals on both sides and accompanied with rubberized winding crown and chronograph pushers, the case is water-resistant to 200 meters / 20 bar, which is more than enough for a sports chronograph model.
Following the general theme of the model, blue-colored mineral glass is used on the background of the dial decorated with sporty details. Skeletonized and white SuperLumiNOVA filled hour and minute hands are accompanied with blue satin and anodized aluminum scale for efficient legibility. Marking the sportier side of the model with the red chronograph hands, the dial also features the 10-minute marker written in red font, referring to Messi’s number.
Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono model family uses the manufacture Caliber JCAA05 movement. Self-winding column wheel and Bi-Compax movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound. The 260 parts movement offers extensive artisanship details like polished movement bridges; open barrel; column-wheel finishes: angled, polished and drawn; anthracite rotor with a red lacquered engraving “Jacob & Co Genève”, circular-grained bridges.
Limited to only 36 units, the model comes on a rubber strap that is secured by a folding clasp made of 18K white gold / Grade 5 titanium.
