Longines proudly owns a rich history in manufacturing excellent chronographs. Well, what we have here is a fine sample. The Single Push-Piece and Bi-Compax chronograph comes in a 40mm stainless steel that houses a Longines Calibre L788.2, which is developed with ETA exclusively for Longines. The case has smooth and rounded sides which makes the timepiece wear really comfortably on the wrist.
Actually, I am very happy to see a beautiful, retro spirited and optimum sized, brand new, bi compax chronograph.
It’s hard to not see the details all matched up together to express the vintage look of this timepiece. White lacquer dial, stylized arabic numerals, blued hands, script logo and the retro crown design makes the watch a neat looking, classy old timer.
By the looks, it’s easy to brand the timepiece “ a dress chronograph “ however, I found my self enjoying it with jeans and a pullover as well as a suit.
The movement is nicely decorated, as is the rim of the case back. You even get a date window at 6 o’clock that doesn’t intrude on the aesthetics of the chronograph at all.
The all-important action on the single pusher is clean and crisp, with a nice "click."
The movement is based on Valjoux 7750 and designed by ETA exclusively for Longines. Nicely decorated movement starts the famous Valjoux wobble even after a slight move of your wrist. Caliber 788.2 has beautiful decorations which can be seen through the transparent case back.
The dial features a date window at 6 o’clock. I am not a big fan of date displays of any kind but I must admit, this one does not hurt the integrity of the beautiful vintage looking dial in any way.
The watch comes on a brown crocodile strap with contrast white stitching. Though I like the quality and comfy feel of the strap I would like to pass the white stitch and go with a black lizard with which should suit the vintage character of the watch better.
I would strongly suggest this cool looking timepiece to any watch enthusiast with a taste for vintage designs in both aesthetics and mechanics. If you’re good with solid watches Longines offers a gold version as well.
