Continuing its superior success in writing instruments also in the traditional luxury watchmaking, Montblanc gathers different periods of watchmaking under the same roof with the model 1858 Split Second Chronograph, which stands out with its Minerva-supported movement and a bronze alloy case.
The model comes in a 44mm diameter and 14.5mm height case made of bronze alloy material that shined in recent years. The case back, which is the part that touches the skin the most, has a sapphire crystal display designed as wide as possible instead of bronze. The metal frame of the case back features titanium alloy, as we remember from different brands’ bronze-case models. On the front of the case, there is a curved, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflection coating. Among the details accompanying the case, the Montblanc signed winding crown with an integrated pusher and the button at 2 o'clock are also made of bronze alloy. The water pressure resistance value of the model is stated as 30 meters.
The dial of the model features beige Arabic numeral indices prepared following both bronze material and the tones that dominate the design on a black background. The hands with Super-LumiNOVA in the same color also support the integrity of the overall theme. Although there is enough contrast in color and extra red details, the legibility of the dial is a bit poor. However, looking carefully is enough to read the values measured by the chronograph. The classic Montblanc logo used on the dial designed in Bi-Compax style is also compatible with the Vintage theme. Finally, the movement reference at 6 takes its place as another detail that emphasizes the Minerva connection of the model.
The movement used in the model bears the signature of Minerva, who continued to operate under the roof of Montblanc after joining the Richemont Group. The hand-wound Caliber MB M16.31, based on the Caliber 17.29 introduced in the 1930s, beats at a frequency of 18.000vph per the original. The movement, which incorporates the "rattrapante" (split second) chronograph feature in addition to its hour, minute, and second functions, can be enjoyed through the large sapphire display case back.
The Montblanc 1858 Split Second Chronograph, which is limited to only 100 pieces, comes with a beige stitched black alligator strap and a Montblanc signed standard clasp produced in a tone matching the concept.
Reinterpreting the golden age of a legendary brand like Minerva with today's standards, the model unites both vintage lovers and alternative material enthusiasts on common ground.
