The German origin boutique brand Nomos, which is highly appreciated with its simple Bauhaus style designs and in-house movements as well as relatively affordable prices, is the guest of our Hands On corner with its Tetra Neomatik Nachtblau debuted in 2016.
Nomos became one of our favorite brands during the Baselworld 2017 with its novelties. Today, we have the Tetra Neomatik Nachtblau model for review which attracts attention with its unique design, square case and deep blue dial.
The model, which we have obtained through the brand’s authorized distributor in Turkey -Tevfik Aydın, is offered in a square case measuring 33mm x 33mm. The 7.2mm thick case is made of mirror polished stainless steel and it is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. Accompanied with an elegant winding crown, the case is water resistant to 30 meters.
Considering 40mm and above diameter timepieces are used by women nowadays, the case -which reminds me of vintage Zenith Respirator models-, is quite compact which makes the model to be classified as a unisex timepiece.
It is possible to say the case looks a tad bigger than 33mm x 33m due to its fully polished surfaces and sleek lines but, it’s still a small watch. For a watch enthusiast like me who is happy wearing a 36mm vintage Rolex Day-Date on a daily routine it will not be a problem. However, for the watch aficionados out there who prefer bigger watches, it’s surely a deal breaker.
The dial of the model is finished in a deep cobalt tone which suits with the model’s name Nachtblau (night blue). The Neomatik text on the dial is written in pale green and the small second hand at 6 o’clock is finished in bright orange. The thin, baton shaped hands are accompanied with Arabic numeral hour markers. Day time legibility is good thanks to the simple dial lay out. However, it is hard to say the same for darker environments as the phosphor material usage is quite limited.
Nomos Tetra Neomatik Nachtblau is powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber DUW 3001. 27 jewels self-winding movement beats at 3Hz and offers a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The movement is quite thin with a total height of 3.2mm only and features the brand’s patented balance design Nomos Swing System.
The model is offered on a black Horween strap which suits with the simple overall design nicely. The hand-made strap is secured with a Nomos signed pin buckle made of polished stainless steel.
Nomos Tetra Neomatik Nachtblau is offered with a MSRP of € 3,060 which I believe is a reasonable figure for an authentic German timepiece with a nicely put together in-house automatic movement.
