Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M is under the spotlight once again with its renewed face revealed at Baselworld 2018. The model, Ref. 210.30.42.20.03.001, attracts attention with its design details inspired by the original version debuted back in 1993.
Omega Seamaster Professional Diver 300M is one of the most important collections within the current Omega product range. The model was first introduced in 1993, under the leadership of watchmaking industry’s legendary name Jean-Claude Biver, and was highly acclaimed with its modern and versatile design. Omega SMP 300 also became the official Bond Watch thanks to the brand partnership with James Bond franchise when Ian Fleming’s cult novel character was played by the successful Irish actor Pierce Brosnan.
The version we are reviewing today is the 210.30.42.20.03.001 reference model, which was debuted as part of the renovated collection that was presented to the likes of watch enthusiasts this year’s Baselworld exhibition.
When we look at the model, it possible to see the details that tribute to the DNA of the original model launched in 1993. Renovated to meet the demands of modern times in terms of both technological and visual, the stainless steel case measures 42mm in diameter. Bearing signature details of the model family like 300 meters / 30 bars water resistance and a Helium Release Valve, the case is equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. Unidirectional diving bezel is upgraded with glossy blue ceramic alloy, which is known with its aging-proof nature.
The model’s dial also features signature SMP 300 design details like the wave pattern background and large dot markers. The dial is also manufactured from the same blue ceramic alloy like the bezel insert. The date display is moved to 6 o’clock position and hidden in the hour marker. The use of blue background date disk in a nice touch which supports the integrity of the model’s dial. Large skeleton-style hands are accompanied with red accents that highlight the sporty character of the model.
Omega Seamaster Professional 300M is powered by the brand’s fully manufacture movement Caliber 8800. METAS certified movement is equipped with the patented Co-Axial Master Chronometer escapement. Self-winding movement, which is highly resistant magnetic fields with its silicon hair spring and non-magnetic components, beats at a frequency of 3.5Hz (25,200bph) and offers a full 55 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
The new Omega SMP300 family includes a wide range of products ranging from quartz movements to different case materials and strap alternatives. The model I chose for the review comes with the beads of rice style stainless steel bracelet with, which is also offered with the original version introduced in 1993 and is among the most charismatic bracelet designs of luxury watchmaking. Let me add that there are very stylish rubber straps in the collection besides the metal bracelet.
I like the Omega SMP 300 model a lot as I had many versions from the model family in the past. I think it is a special watch which was always a step ahead of its time. And I am very happy to see a full new collection of models designed with the same DNA but by using the brand’s cutting edge technology at the same time.
