The 1930s... The Italian Navy is in search of a watch that will be used in missions, its dial can be read comfortably in any condition, and it will not be waterproof... Do not be afraid, I will not tell the story from the beginning. Everybody knows Panerai’s adventure that started with the Radiomir model. This special model, which stands before us today, is a perfect example of the characteristic design details of the brand, created with both stylish and modern technologies and interpretations.
The Radiomir 1940 family, as the name suggests, is more like an upgraded version of the early Radiomir models with thicker lugs to eliminate the mechanical weakness in the cases. We can also say that the Radiomir 1940 is an intermediate design before the Luminor model, which was created afterward by adding a crown guard and has tritium painted dials instead of radium.
The PAM00934 model, which is the guest of our review corner, comes with a 45mm diameter case made of 18K red gold. The term red gold is not used frequently throughout the industry, but when you see a Panerai in person, you immediately understand how accurate this term was chosen. The alloy used by Panerai has a much redder tone compared to other gold alloys due to the percentage of metals in its content.
The case is equipped with sapphire crystals on both sides and is water-resistant to 50 meters. The wave pattern embroidered on the rear crystal is exclusively made for Mediterraneo Edition.
The dial of PAM00934 is produced by a special process called “sandwich”. The luminescence of Super-LumiNOVA, which is processed on the main plate, leaks through the perforated markers and indices in the upper layer, creating perfect visibility under all conditions.
The model is powered by the manufacture self-winding Caliber P.4000. The 37.8mm diameter movement can offer an assertive fineness thanks to its micro-rotor. 31 jewels movement beats at 28.800vph and offers a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound.
