Patek Philippe 5905R, introduced at the Baselworld fair in 2019, looks like an elegant watch in terms of design. However, it comes with a remarkably sporty case due to the larger movement inside. We are talking about a case measuring 42mm x 14.03mm here, which is imposing for PP standards. We can focus on two main factors that contribute to this situation. First, although the interest in small diameters has increased again due to the "return to roots" trend that affects the watchmaking industry in general, the demand for large watches still exists. The second reason is related to the size of the caliber that gave life to 5905. The annual calendar module added to the automatic movement with the Mono-Compax chronograph function makes the model feel quite hefty on the wrist. Of course, we should not forget the specific weight of the 18K gold material. The model can withstand water pressure up to 30 meters.
The dial, which comes in a gradient tone from brown to black that suits perfectly with the rose gold case and accents, offers a matte surface. In the upper half of the dial are the displays for the annual calendar. The movement indicates the day, date, and month information yet requires to be adjusted only once a year, at the end of February. In the remaining months, there is no need for any adjustment. On the lower half of the dial is the chronograph function's minute counter featuring the day/night indicator within.
Inside the case is the in-house automatic movement, Caliber CH 28 520 QA 24H. Measuring 33mm x 7.68mm, the 37-jewels caliber consists of 402 parts, operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph), and offers a power reserve of up to 55 hours. The sapphire display case back reveals the beauty of the movement that bears the Patek Phillipe Seal.
The model comes with a glossy black alligator strap and a standard pin buckle made of 18K pink gold. The Patek Philippe product line also includes platinum versions of the same model with black and blue dial options. Patek Philippe 5905R is available with a list price of € 59,670.
