If you are also interested in luxury and/or sports cars besides your watch hobby, I am sure you are well aware of the improvements that have taken place on the Porsche side. The brand, which once again highlighted the success of its legendary model with the one millionth 911 that left the production band in the past days, recently introduced the fastest 911 ever: 911 GT2 RS. The thing that brought the car enthusiasts under the same roof with the watch aficionados was the latest timepiece from Porsche Design exclusively made for the owners of that special automobile.
The new model, which is inspired by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, features many details that evoke the super car but, before continuing with the timepiece, let’s have a little information about the car itself.
Porsche 911 GT2 RS is powered by an in-line 6 cylinder dual-turbocharged 3.8 liter engine. With its 700hp power and ground shaking 533 lb-ft torque, the car does the 0 to 60mph in 2.8 seconds and 211mph top speed.
The model is offered in a titanium case measuring 42mm in diameter and 15.3mm at height. Despite being not moderately sized, the model promises a comfortable wearing thanks to the lightweight titanium. The tachymeter bezel is also made of titanium with black carbide coating. The screw-in caseback is also made of very same configuration with the bezel in terms of material and finish, and it is equipped with a sapphire crystal display. The case sports an AR coated sapphire crystal on the front side and it offers a water resistance rating of 50 meters. The winding crown and the chronograph pushers are also made of titanium.
The dial of the new model is made of carbon fiber which became more like an official material for motorsports. The silver stripe at the center of the dial is applied by using Porsche’s original paint “GT Silver”. The dial features a vertical Bi-Compax chronograph lay-out. At 9 o’clock position there is a “running seconds” indicator designed in the form of the 911 GT2 RS logo. The date display is located at 4 o’clock position with a black date disc. The overall color scheme of the dial matches nicely with the titanium case material as well as the car itself.
Porsche Chronograph 911 GT2 RS is powered by the Caliber Ref. 01.200 which is also the brand’s first in-house manufacture movement ever. Bearing a lot of similarities with the good old Valjoux 7750 which gave life to many past models of the brand, the self-winding movement beats at 4Hz and offers a 48h power reserve when fully wound. The movement is C.O.S.C. certified and it is equipped with high-tech components like Nivaflex hairspring and Glucydur balance. The movement, which took about three years to develop from scratch, features Flyback chronograph and date features as well as the time keeping function. The unique oscillating rotor of the movement inspired by the magnesium wheels of the automobile and the Porsche Design signed plates and bridges can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The new model comes with two leather straps with alcantara lining which is also a popular material for luxurious sports cars. The strap are offered in two colors as black and red and secured by a folding clasp made of titanium.
The watch retails 11.000,00 USD (US list). However, you need more than that as the model is available to the proud owners of Porsche 911 GT2 RS only through authorized Porsche dealers.
