SIHH, one of the most important exhibitions in the world of horology, is opening its doors on January 16th this year. Roger Dubuis is the latest brand that started introducing the 2017 novelties just before the upcoming organization.
Our first model is the Excalibur Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt ®. When talking about a model that contains such innovations, we better start with the mechanism first. There are four different balance wheels in the mechanism which includes 590 pieces of individual parts. Thanks to the balances placed on all four corners of the watch, Caliber Ref. RD101 beats at 115,200vph (4x4 Hz). The mechanism, PVD coated in blue, is approved with the "Poincon de Genève" certificate. The hand winding Caliber Ref.RD101 offers 40 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
When we take our eyes out of the mechanism that is one of the most important parts of the new timepiece, we are welcomed with a Cobalt Chrome case measuring 48mm in diameter., The Excalibur Collection is confidently stepping up to become an iconic collection of Roger Dubuis. The new model is water resistant to 50 meters but I do not think you would want to contact the Excalibur Quatuor Cobalt MicroMelt as the collection is limited to 8 pieces only.
The dial itself, just like the movement, is a piece of art therefore I will not go into detail as I believe photos will speak for their selves to express the beauty of the dial.
The blue crocodile leather strap that comes with the watch is accompanied by a folding clasp made of titanium.
Our second watch from the Excalibur collection is the Spider Skeleton Automatic. Like the previous model, which has blue-red and black colors, the name Spider comes from the new model’s color palette. Titanium and black rubber are used in the bezel of the model offered in a 45mm Titanium-DLC case. We also see the use of colored rubber in the red winding crown of the timepiece. Spider Skeleton is 14.02mm thick and 50 meters waterproof. The model is limited to 88 pieces only.
At the heart of watch is the Caliber Ref.RD820SQ featuring 167 individual parts. The self winding micro-rotor movement beats at 4Hz and offers 60h of power reserve when fully wound. The movement, which is approved by the "Poincon de Genève" certificate, can be watched with pleasure thanks to the skeleton form.
The model is offered on a combined strap made of black rubber and blue leather stylized by red stitching. The strap is secured by a folding clasp made of titanium.
Roger Dubuis attracted attention with the novelties in their women’s collection during SIHH 2016. The brand that made the Velvet Collection for women the forefront of the last year, seems to have focused on the Excalibur series for this year.
The new model prepared in classic Excalibur style is offered in 36mm diameter case. The Titanium-DLC case is accompanied by 48 pieces of (1.5 ct.) sapphires paved on the bezel. Designed with 9.80mm thickness for elegant women’s wrists, the model has a water resistance value of 50 meters.
The dial is designed in blue color with SunRay finish. The small seconds sub-dial and the date display located at 6 o’clock position are accompanied with rhodium plated and printed indices.
Caliber Ref. RD830 offers a 48h power reserve when fully wound. Self winding movement is decorated with the classic "Cotes de Genève" motif.
