Well, let’s see what we have got here; A legendary brand and it’s legendary product line, platinum case, chronograph movement with tourbillon function and a ceramic bezel.. It’s unlikely to have an unpleasant model with those features.. and yet it is not.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph is one of the most special models out of AP’s sports watches. Prestige, wrist presence, complication, top figure price tag.. You virtually get everything you want.
You feel the built quality right after you strap the watch to your wrist. Platinum offers a delicate and a tempting feel with it’s weight. The bezel, which is the most prone to scratches part of the watch, is made of hi-tech ceramic due to both aesthetic and functional purposes. The 44mm X 16mm measured case feels extremely comfy on the wrist thanks to it’s slightly curved form.
The watch features sapphire crystals on both front and back sides which leaves you with absolute viewing pleasure of the brilliantly detailed parts. As expected from a sports watch the, WR rating is set to a satisfying 100M.
The indexes and the hands set’s frames are made of white gold and filled with green color SuperLuminova.
Let’s get to the movement. We are here to talk about a fantastic masterpiece which is completely in-house designed & build featuring a tourbillon chronograph function. The chronograph pushers controlling the center located second hand are made of hi-tech ceramic as well as the bezel. Though we can not say they offer the smoothest feel, we can easily rate it as one of the best among the watch’s rivals. The blue dial features a tachymeter scale and a 30min counter. In the meantime let me remind you that the blue color is not a random choice for AP. In fact, it’s a special color for the brand’s platinum models. The 9 o’clock side located tourbillon is a pleasure to watch. Consisting of 388 parts and 30 jewels, the caliber beats at 21600vph.
AP offers a rubber strap with the watch in matching blue color. The folding clasp is also made of platinum. Rubber strap feels very comfortable on the wrist and it nicely suits with the rest of the watch. However, there is also a crocodile leather strap alternative as well.
The price you have to pay to have the watch feels even heavier than it’s platinum case. While it’s almost inevitable to think about other alternatives in the six digit price range, it still feels quire right to go with that watch due to it’s amazingly detailed and complicated caliber.
