Seiko, who won the great love of its loyal followers as well as all watch enthusiasts with the Vintage-inspired new models introduced at the Baselworld 2018, in under the spot light with the Seiko Prospex S23626 1000M Limited Edition model from this year’s novelties.
Seiko, who has strengthened its position as one of the star brands of Baselworld exhibition especially in the last few years, is one of the most popular brands that follow the Heritage trend storming through the entire industry. The brand’s "Diver Watches" product line, which has many legendary models throughout its long history, offers a rich selection of options that will appeal to almost every type of watch user.
The model family that carries the nickname "Tuna" with its case form resembling a tuna can has a very large user base, from professional divers to office workers who want to have a piece of this legendary design. The iconic model family, which offers many variants differentiating from each other with dimensions, materials, movements and water resistance ratings, is the guest of our pages once again with the Seiko Prospex S23626 1000M Limited Edition model inspired by the “Golden Tuna” model of 1978.
The new model is offered in a case -that goes with its nickname- measuring 49.40mm x 15.30mm. The case, which became popular with its multi-piece construction, is made by using modern technology materials. The Inner-Case is made of gold coated titanium while the Outer Protector part is made of matt black ceramic. The case water resistant to 1000 meters (400 meters more than the original version of 1978) and is equipped with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal on the front face. The bezel is also gold coated in line with the overall concept. As a model initially designed purely for professional purposes, it is not famous for its wrist comfort obviously. However, this is a simple matter that devoted watch enthusiasts would easily sacrifice on just have that iconic design strapped to our wrists.
The dial of the model is also prepared to include the classic design details of the product group. In accordance with the gold-accented concept, the same gold tone is used in some of the texts on the dial which is accompanied by large gold-plated arms, providing visual integrity. The two-display day and date window, a detail that Seiko barely gives up on employing at its dive watches, is present at 3 o’clock. We do not have a photo of how the dial looks in the dark, but I am sure that (like all the watch enthusiast who had a little experience with Seiko dive watches would be) the legibility at night is excellent.
The new model is powered by the Quartz Caliber 7C46. There’s nothing much to say about it (at least for this caliber) because it’s a battery-powered movement. In addition to the time keeping function, the three-hand movement also features a day/date display.
The Seiko Prospex S23626 1000M Limited Edition comes with an accordion-style black rubber strap, which is another iconic design like the watch itself. On the tip of the strap, which offers a comfortable and safe use on the wet suit thanks to its elastic structure, there is titanium pin buckle which is also finished in gold.
The new model is limited to a span of 1978 units only and available with a relatively fancy price tag of € 2,400 (especially for a battery-powered watch).
