TAG Heuer Connected 2020

TAG Heuer Connected 2020

TAG Heuer, one of the luxury names within the connected watch segment, introduced the 2020 version of its Connected model.

No matter what they say, connected watches equipped with high technologies have come to shake the throne of mechanical watches with hundreds of years of history. Well, it seems they are doing it. Naturally, like every brand that cares about business and profitability, names devoted to mechanical watchmaking for years could not remain unresponsive to these developments.

TAG Heuer and its Connected model are just one of these formations. The Connected model, introduced in 2015, was differentiating from the models of technology companies by promising superior luxury feeling and prestige. Although this seemed to be working at the beginning, I am not sure if that miraculous breakthrough has taken place. TAG Heuer worked harder to deal with the high-tech brands that dominate the market, especially Apple and launched the 2020 version of the Connected.

In the new model, the case is the first updated part that attracts attention. The new Connected’s case, measuring 45mm x 13.5mm now, is available in stainless steel and titanium. Equipped with a sapphire crystal, the case is water-resistant to 50 meters. GPS and heartbeat monitoring sensors, which are indispensable features for connected watches, are of course included. The battery capacity of the model, powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, is 430 mAh. Available with a steel or ceramic bezel, steel or rubber bracelet/strap alternatives and an OLED touch screen, the model's operating system is based on Google Wear.

The 2020 version of TAG Heuer Connected will be available at list prices ranging from $ 1800 to $ 2350. With a simple review, we see that the popular connected watches, which are preferred by the market, are sold with higher battery capacity, stronger processor, more case/strap combination alternatives and above all with much more affordable price tags. In short, TAG Heuer Connected does not achieve a very successful value in price/performance ratio. However, I do not think that the target audience of TAG Heuer is also a standard connected watch user either. For those who want to live the practical and useful world of connected watches with the quality of TAG Heuer, there is no solution other than paying the MSRP.
