Turquoise Dials

Turquoise Dials

Will turquoise, the most popular dial color of recent years, continue to rise?

Recently, we have been witnessing the inevitable rise of colored dials, apart from black, white, and tones in between. However, there is one among these colors that whet our appetite both with its name and its visuality.

The name of this greenish light blue color comes from the Mediterranean coast, according to rumors. It is also thought that another source of the word, which is derived from the French word Turk, is turquoise stone. Well, what is the reason why this color has suddenly become popular, especially in the watch industry?

Founded in 1837 in New York, USA, jewelry giant Tiffany & Co started to use a special shade of blue in its advertisements published in 1845. The use of blue, which is the egg color of American Robin, the migratory thrush, was so intense and the brand gained such a great reputation around the world that this blue became known as Tiffany blue. In fact, this color was registered to Tiffany & Co. in 1998 and entered the Pantone catalog with the number 1837.

Aside from Tiffany's reputation, the launch of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711, which is produced in a limited edition of 175 pieces and carries this special blue color on its dial, created a nuclear bomb effect in the watch world.

As if this were not enough, the appearance of the Nautilus 5740, which was produced only once, belonged to Bernard Arnault, one of the richest people in the world, and has the same colored dial, and a perpetual calendar, on social media was the last straw. As if this were not enough, the appearance of the Nautilus 5740, which was produced only once, belonged to Bernard Arnault, one of the richest people in the world, and has the same colored dial, and a perpetual calendar, on social media was the last straw.

There are pioneers and followers in the watch world. What Patek Philippe did with these two Nautilus models was exactly to start this light-toned blue color trend. Interestingly, this trend has benefited many blue watches that were introduced long before or after Nautilus.

Let's agree on one thing first. Not every turquoise dial watch you see on the market is Tiffany blue. In fact, none of them except Patek Nautilus, because as I mentioned above, the Tiffany blue color is registered to the brand name and it is not possible to use this color for commercial purposes without the permission of the brand. On the other hand, turquoise, or its main class name cyan has many subtones, and there is nothing that prevents you from producing the dials you want with these uniquely beautiful blues.

For example, what do you think of the 41mm diameter Oyster Perpetual model, which has been in production for only one year and is already at the top of the list of most sought-after Rolexes? I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't be a perfect combination if the hands and indexes were dark, like on the 5711.

What about the Mission to Uranus version of Swatch Moonswatch, the most sensational watch of recent years? I think we are dealing with one of the cheapest ways to reach this blue.

The Glashütte Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date is one of the most beautiful blue representatives with its iconic angular case, the brand's characteristic big date window, and its movement built with extraordinary German craftsmanship.

There is someone from far away, from the other side of the world, among us. Unfortunately, Grand Seiko presents the Japanese version of blue to watch lovers with the Heritage Ginza SBGH297 model, which is available only in Japan.

Is it possible to resist this time machine with the reference 15710ST.OO.A032CA.01, the turquoise dial member of Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak Offshore Diver model, one of the assertive members of the diver's watches?

Or another diver, are you ready to get lost in the deep blues with the turquoise dial option of the Breitling Superocean Automatic44?

It seems that the turquoise dial watch trend will continue for a while. I wonder what will be the next popular color?
