Vacheron Constantin Corned de Vache 1955 Steel Case

Vacheron Constantin Corned de Vache 1955 Steel Case

The desired chronograph now comes in stainless steel.

The news you will about to read may seem like a simple material change. Well, it’s not. Introduced in 2015, Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache, which has been offered only in platinum and 18K rose gold to date, is presented to watch lovers with its new version featuring a stainless steel case. Let’s increase the romance a little more and add that the MSRP has changed dramatically.

Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 is the current version of the 6087 reference model, which was introduced to watch lovers in about 1955. Like most Vacheron models from 1940 to 1960, this watch had tear-shaped lugs. Let me add that Corned de Vache means cow’s horn. In 2015, the brand decided to put the Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 under the spotlight again. Both the platinum and 18K rose gold versions offered with a silvery opaline dial.

The new Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 does not feature extreme differences. The case remains the same with a diameter of 38.5mm and a total height of 10.9mm. The same goes for the rest of the design. It still features the same central polished container with a thin domed bezel, flat case bands and mushroom-like chronograph pushers and naturally, the distinctive element of this watch, its Cornes de Vache lugs. The use of stainless steel has two advantages besides price; lightness and scratch resistance than gold and platinum.

Apart from the case material, there are a few minor changes to the model. One of these is the replacement of the crocodile leather strap used in platinum and gold versions with a calf strap. The brown Serapian patina further enhances the charm of the watch. The strap is complemented by a half Maltese cross-shaped buckle.

Another change is in the dial. When you look at baton hands, gold indexes, blued chronograph counters, tachymeter scale, Bi-Compax layout, and two-tone design, you might think it’s the same as the other editions. But the changes are hidden in detail. The central and outer scale of the dial has a velvet finish and is prepared in opaline gray. The background of the minute scale is designed in white with fonts in red.

The Caliber 1142’s architecture is based on the Lemania 2310, which can be viewed from the sapphire crystal display case back. The hand-wound movement provides 48 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
