Brands re-interpreting the old models in their archives relaunching them became a familiar strategy in today’s luxury watchmaking. An elegant example in the Dress Complication subtitle of the Heritage trend that doesn’t apply such filters like brand prestige or price range, Vacheron Constantin Historiques Triple Calendar 1948 (Ref. 3100V / 000R-B359) was the guest of our Hands On corner.

Vacheron Constantin Historiques Triple Calendar 1948 (Ref. 3100V/000R-B359) comes in a 18K pink gold case measuring 40mm in diameter and 10.35mm in height. Re-sized to fit today’s standards in luxury watchmaking, the case is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. It is difficult to talk about unique details regarding the case design as expected from the Dress Watch style timepieces. Though, the case features “claw” formed thick lugs that look like they’ve been integrated to the case separately, which successfully support the vintage-inspired theme. There is three recessed pushers on the sides of the case in addition to the winding crown that is decorated with the brand’s signature Maltese cross figure. The case is water resistant to 30 meters / 3 bars.

The model is actually based on a vintage timepiece, Ref.4240L, which was released back in 1948. There are several details throughout the model’s design that tribute to the original version. And the dial design is undoubtedly the part that offers the strongest resemblance. Designed with a cream colored background, the dial offers burgundy accents for the calendar which matches perfectly with the 18K pink gold case. Supported by the pink gold hands and 3D applique indices, the dial offers the ultimate visual integrity. The moon phase indicator, featuring a burgundy accented disk, is located at 6 o’clock while the day and month displays are present below the 12 marker. The pointer style date display is read through the chapter ring scale from 1 to 31 placed around the dial.
