Vacheron Constantin is a well-known name for its classical designs and models with horologically significant complications. However, the brand’s sports-based product group, the Overseas Collection is also very popular. Known as one of the most important watches created by the legendary watch designer Jorg Hysek, Overseas continues to maintain its position in the Vacheron Constantin catalog, despite the fact that it has seen many updates over time, but never to its roots.

Today’s guests of the review are the blue and brown versions of the model known as the Simple Date which was fully refreshed in 2016.

The case of the model is made of stainless steel with a diameter of 41mm. Among the characteristic details of the case that successfully blends matte and shiny surfaces, is the angular bezel design inspired by the figure of the Maltese Cross, which is also the symbol of the brand and comes out as one of the most remarkable details.

The model will surely please the younger watch enthusiasts as well as the loyal followers of the brand, with its timeless design.

There are sapphire crystal windows with anti-reflection coating on the front and back of the case, offering a very comfortable wrist presence with its 11mm thickness. The winding crown on the right hand side of the case, which comes with a resistance value of 150M water pressure in accordance to the classification of a "sports watch", carries the symbol of the brand.

Another important feature of the case, which also offers a magnetic field strength of 25,000 A / m, stands out as the patented user friendly bracelet /strap change system. Unwanted scratches are prevented by means of this system that allows the bracelet or strap to be easily withdrawn by pulling the arm at the connection point.

Blue and brown dials are included in the review subject versions. Baton-style indexes and hands give the dial a simple and functional stance. Thanks to SuperLuminova-coated indexes and hands, the night vision is very reflective. At the 3 o’clock position on the dial, there is a date window which is the only extra feature of the model.

Inside the new models, the brand’s recently designed mechanism, the Caliber Ref. 5100 is on duty. The 172-piece automatic winding movement beats at 28.800vph and can provide up to 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The Geneva Seal approved movement, which draws attention with its solid 22K gold rotor, contributes to the watch’s compact structure with a thickness of 4.70mm.

Both versions we have here are offered on stainless steel bracelets. The bracelet which is one of the symbol designs of the brand, sports matte and shiny links.  With its butterfly-type folding clasp, the bracelet has a very elegant look and it is more than aesthetically and ergonomically satisfying with its integrated structure.

In case a sportier or a more classic look required, Vacheron Constantin offers rubber or leather strap alternatives as well.
