Zenith introduced the new Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition model, which has been designed in collaboration with the renowned luxury SUV manufacturer Land Rover.
Partnerships between luxury watchmakers and automobile manufacturers are now among the popular sales and marketing strategies of luxury watchmaking. In fact, they are spot on partnerships most of the time in terms of commercial success as almost all of the enthusiasts who have dedicated themselves to luxury mechanical watches feel the same love and passion for luxury cars as well.
Since the Zenith - Land Rover brand partnership is always seen as the meeting of two sector leading brands, the outcomes of this partnership i.e. the watches are always a matter of curiosity and desire.
The latest addition to the Zenith’s three-year old partnership with Land Rover is dedicated to the new 2019 Evoque, the compact SUV from the brand’s luxury division Range Rover. Inspired by the recently introduced SUV, Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition offers stylish details that refer to the luxury vehicle and does that in a subtle way.
What I am most pleased with the models produced in collaboration with Zenith and Land Rover over the past three years, is the fact that the timepieces that were rather modest and stylish while presenting their relation with the luxury auto-maker. Instead of flashing the connection with the partner brand to the user’s face, those models offer simple details for this task which never hurt the original DNA of the timepieces. Seeing the very same fashion at the new Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition makes the watch get a head start.
Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition comes in a retro-modern designed, stylish Defy type case measuring 41mm in diameter and 10.75mm in height. The case is made of ultra-light Grade 5 titanium, which suits with the hi-tech character of the inspired vehicle, and is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. With its water resistance rating of 100 meters, the model can be worn for many water related activities during the day.
The new model’s most distinctive detail is surely the dial design. Formed in skeleton style with Zenith’s own Open Heart approach, the dial refers to the new Range Rover Evoque with many cleverly arranged details. First of all, the dial is inspired by the Range Rover rim design directly. Time display is shown with thick baton shaped hands and applique style hour marker applied on an outer minute scale. Zenith logo is present on the front sapphire crystal where the user enjoys the inner parts of the contemporary finished movement. While the minute scale remaining surrounded by the matt flat bezel supports the vehicle rim perception in the front, the main body and other components that attract attention with their closed form resembling a brake disc have successfully carries the automobile-focused character of the design to the forefront. The center mounted second hand is finished in Artic Blue – the color that was used in the introduction of the new Range Rover Evoque.
Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition is powered by the manufacture Caliber Elite 670. Self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a 50-hour power reserve when fully wound. The movement, which was dressed in a simple, industrial style, can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystals on both sides.
The model comes on a black rubber strap with a diamond patterns on it and a secured by a Zenith signed folding clasp made of titanium.
Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton Range Rover Edition is limited to a span of 200 units only and available with a MSRP of CHF 7,500.
