Zenith Pilot Type 20 Extra Special Silver (05.2430.679.17.C902)

Zenith, added a new limited edition model to its Pilot Type 20 model family prior to the upcoming Baselworld 2019 watches and jewelry trade show. The model, which will be limited to a span of 250 units only, offers exquisite details that refer to the early years of aviation.

Firstly, the model is offered in a 45mm diameter case made of solid 925 silver, which is not a commonly used material for watch cases. Due to the soft nature of the metal, silver is not the best material for such a component like the case, which will obviously be exposed to external factors. Let me add that this model is the first Zenith watch in a silver case ever produced.

The case is equipped with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal on the front side and a solid case back at the rear side that is engraved with classic aviation inspired pattern like the ones we see in the other versions of the Pilot Type 20 model family. The case is water resistant to 100 meters / 10 bars and is accompanied with a large onion shape winding crown, which is among the signature details of classic pilot watches.

Dial is the other part of the model, which is exclusively inspired by the early years of aviation. The dial is finished in brushed silver and decorated with riveted stamping pattern that evokes the rivets used for fixing old aircraft’s aluminum body parts to their frames. Oversized Arabic numerals and large hands filled with Super LumiNOVA from the symbolic details of the model family found their place in this new version as well.

The new model is powered by the Caliber Elite 679 movement. Self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound.

Securing this rugged model to the wrist is a brown calfskin leather strap with a rivet and silver pin buckle, along with a distinctive tab recalling those featured on vintage pilot helmets.
