Omega, one of the first names that comes to mind when it comes diver’s watches with its legendary Seamaster model family, is under the spotlight with the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Deep Black Chronograph model.
The Planet Ocean model family, which has always been appreciated not only by the fellow Omega enthusiasts but almost every watch aficionado from the day it’s been released, got a vast variety of models with the novelties added each year. The product group, which offers many alternatives with updated technical specs as well as sharp visual differences, is the guest of our Hands On corner with the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Deep Black Chronograph (Ref. 215.92.46.51.01.001) model.
The model comes in a classic Planet Ocean style case measuring 45.5mm in diameter. The case, which is made of Omega’s ceramic alloy and finished in matt black, wears a tad smaller thanks to its darker color palette. However, it still provides a bold presence on the wrist as expected from a 45.5mm diameter case. The case sits quite comfortably even on smaller wrists due to its -an Omega classic- short and thick lug design. Water resistance is 600 meters as in the other models in the product group.
The case is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. The caseback features Omega’s patented Naiad Lock system. In addition to the winding crown and the chronograph pushers on the right side of the case, there is also a Helium Release Valve on the right side. All accents in this group feature the black/orange color combo in line with the main concept. The bezel combines three different materials as rubber, black ceramic and patented Liquidmetal ™ alloy and marked with classic diver’s scale.
The dial also designed in line with the color scheme featuring orange and white accents over matt black surface. Baton type indices are accompanied by an Arabic numeral hour marker at 12 which is finished in orange. The dial sports a pair of sub-counters at 3 and 9 in classic Bi-Compax lay out and a date display window at 6. Right below the center of the dial, there is a "ZrO2" text which stands for the chemical symbol for the ceramic zirconium alloy used by Omega. The contrasting sub-counter hand colors and large sword type hand set allows the measurements to be read accurately in almost any occasion.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Deep Black Chronograph ticks with the brand’s in-house movement OMEGA Master Chronometer Caliber 9900. Self-winding movement is equipped with Omega’s patented Co-Axial escapement system and serially placed double barrels that provide 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The movement Master Chronometer certified which requires the movement to pass 8 rigorous tests set by METAS (The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). Besides its time keeping functions, the movement sports a Bi-Compax chronograph feature as a well as a date display and GMT functions. The Rhodium plated movement is magnetically shielded up to 15000 Gauss by a soft iron cage inside the case and exclusively decorated with Cotes de Genève patterns which are visible through the sapphire display caseback.
The model is offered on a black rubber/textile combo strap with orange stitching and an anti-bacterial treatment. The strap is secured by an Omega signed black folding clasp made of titanium and ceramic.
