Finally, in 2018’s new women’s models, I was able to see something eye-catching beyond diamonds. Moreover, not only in a single brand, but in most of them.
Among the new watches I have seen at the SIHH 2018 fair, the new models of Audemars Piguet, which I mentioned in this article, were the most remembered ones along with the Cartier’s hourglass Panthère (Cartier Révélation d’Une Panthère) model.
It’s great to see that women’s watches are not just about gem setting. When you look at the collection, it is not possible not to admire all of them.
Millenary Collection
Frosted Gold Opal Dial
Opal, pink gold with frosted finish, the shine, the movement, the Polish/Milanese style mesh bracelets... I got dazzled by all instantly. The colors, the design and the use of opal as the only jewellery are all very successful and absolutely different.
The use of opal on the skeleton dial provided a deeper look. Small gold hands are very elegant. I liked the use of regular gold with frosted finish gold together. I can’t say that I pretty much liked the Polish/Milanese style mesh bracelets but since I got dazzled by the opal at the first place, I am not bothered with the bracelet. On the contrary, I kind of liked the vintage appeal provided by those mesh bracelets.
Hand-Wound
The other two models in the Millenary Collection are offered in 18K pink or white gold. The mother of pearl dial looks elegant and the use of diamonds jazzed up the look. Mesh bracelets look very light and seem to be less felt on the wrist. The bracelet is offered in two different styles. The Milanese one is more classical, more flat, and gives a feeling of its own depth with the wires are arranged in the same direction resulting in a simpler construction. The second one is Polish style where the wires are arranged in alternate directions, giving a richer, smoother finish.
There are also interchangeable strap options in the Hand Wound collection.
If your wrist is as small as mine, the models in the Millenary Collection may not fit you in terms of size. Of course, it’s nice to see them on the writs of the mannequins, but it would be better to try them on your wrist at the first place.
Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked
The Double Balance Wheel is called "a work of art". The Royal Oak model has been introduced in 41mm diameter case in 2016. The new Double Balance Wheel comes in a 37mm case. Maybe they tried to design a model that is also appealing for man, I don’t know. But the new size is a wise move for women users. We can see the heart of the watch on both sides of the case.
Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon
Here we are with the first AP Flying Tourbillon Royal Oak. Thank you, Chanel!
A perfect Flying Tourbillon. With its unique design, superb features and the precious stones used, I can say that AP has made an unforgettable first. I wish they have done that earlier and haven’t been beaten by an Haute Couture model in the GPHG.
2018 took a fast start. I can say that I am very pleased to see that brands reflect their new year excitement to the women’s models as well.
