Following the Santos Skeleton ADLC "Noctambule" model introduced last year, Cartier introduced two new models this year again with a black-oriented color palette. The Ref.WSSA0037 version, from the new series, brings a new dimension to the Bi-Color concept with its stainless steel and ADLC tones.
Introduced under the Santos de Cartier product line, which was renewed in 2018, the new model comes with a case measuring 47.5 mm x 39.8 mm x 9.38 mm. Stainless steel material was used in the construction of the case, which has a comfortable and balanced stance on the wrist with its design that represents the final version of the Santos de Cartier product line. However, some of the components belonging to the case were blackened with the ADLC (amorphous diamond-like carbon) coating technique, giving the model an unusual Two-Tone appearance that we did not see much. The characteristic bezel of the 100 meters water-resistant case is made of ADLC coated steel. The mat bezel, which creates strong contrast with the steel bezel screws, was accompanied by a black gem-set winding crown.
The dial of the model is designed per the typical Santos de Cartier design language. Equipped with stylized Roman numeral markers and sword-style hands, the dial was prepared following the general color palette of the model with an anthracite-tone background. The date window is located at 6 o'clock position of the dial, which shows a balanced harmony with the bezel.
The Caliber 1847 MC, which we saw in the Clé de Cartier model family, which was first introduced in 2015, was used in the new model. The power reserve time of the automatic movement, which operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph), is set to 40 hours.
The version we chose for review comes with a metal bracelet that is among the signature details of the Santos de Cartier model family. The bracelet made of matt stainless steel is accompanied by a push-button release folding clasp with the Cartier logo. In addition to the metal bracelet, there is a stylish and comfortable black rubber strap alternative. Let us add that both options are compatible with the brand's easy strap replacement system "QuickSwitch".
The Santos de Cartier model family features black-themed versions since 2009. This iconic design, which is often remembered with yellow gold and yellow gold/steel combination models, is a perfect example of the definition of “timeless design” with its perfect harmony with the requirements of modern times.
