Parallel lines, polygons, Leonardo Da Vinci, Maxime Plescia-Büchi and Hublot... Big Bang Sang Bleu Steel Blue Diamonds was the guest of our Hands-On corner with all its elegance.
Let me ask you a question of expertise; how many limited editions are there in Hublot’s Big Bang collection? 10 or 20? I can honestly say that I don’t have any guesses about it either. All I know is that it’s more than the limited editions produced by many brands. I cannot predict exactly what this love of production brings to the brand but; it’s a fact that these very ‘limited editions’ sometimes resemble each other in terms of design.
In the light of all these facts, there is one specific Hublot model that was designed in collaboration with Maxime Büchi, which makes me say, “That’s exactly what I am looking for!” every time I see it. Most brands change the color of the dial and/or strap when they cooperate with someone. The collaborator signs the case back and the model is introduced to the watch enthusiasts. This watch is far from all these routines. The model that I am talking about is Big Bang Sang Bleu Steel Blue Diamonds. Before I proceed with my opinions about the watch, first, I would like to talk about the Maxime Plescia-Büchi / Sang Bleu relation, the birth of this model and the reasons that made me think it’s so original.
Maxime Plescia-Büchi, 41, is both a tattoo artist and creative director of the Sang Bleu agency, which he founded in Switzerland. Since its foundation in 2006, Sang Bleu has been publishing magazines, known as a fashion brand and collaborating with brands such as New Balance, Alexander McQueen, and Rick Owens. So designing is his job! Not to mention that Büchi is a dedicated watch-lover.
In fact, Büchi is not the first bridge between tattoo artists and watchmaking. Nevertheless, I can say that I like his style much more than other artists. One reason for this is that Büchi, whose body is covered with tattoos from head to toe, is interested in symmetrical lines and polygons like me and the other reason is that this style can be reflected more easily on a wristwatch.
Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu Steel Blue Diamonds, designed by Maxime Büchi and reflecting the style of the designer in the best way, is limited to only 200 pieces. The model comes in a 39mm polished stainless steel case. The model’s hexagonal, polished steel bezel bears the signature of the designer. The blue dial with matte and polished details is covered by an anti-glare treated sapphire crystal. The watch water resistant to 100 meters.
When you look at the dial, you can see an alternative display instead of the classic minute hand. These octagonal indicators, of course, are designed by Büchi, who also follows in Leonardo Da Vinci’s footsteps.
The model is powered by the Caliber HUB1710. The self-winding movement offers a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound.
The watch is available in two different straps: black rubber and blue shiny calfskin. The reliefs on the strap, like every other detail on the watch, are designed by our artist.
Let’s get to the hotly anticipated part throughout the article; The MSRP of this model, which will express you and reveal your taste when you want, where you want, is 18,900 CHF. Is it worth it? Oh, absolutely!
