Spirit, the newest member of the Longines Sport collection, is ready to accompany the most special moments of the pilot watch enthusiasts.
Flying is in the spirit of Longines, in every sense. The success of this brand, which has a passion for aviation, with the models introduced in recent years, not only distinguishes it from its competitors but also allows the brand to "fly" to the top in watch enthusiasts’ brand and model preferences.
Spirit series has a special place among Longines' 2020 novelties. The collection, created from scratch, contains every detail required to be in a modern Pilot watch, while the genes from the brand's aviation heritage are also included.
The model we chose for review comes with a 42mm diameter case, but there is also a 40mm version of the same watch, and to be honest, I think 40mm suits this watch better. The watch has a sapphire crystal on the front and a perfectly readable matte black dial right behind it. Thanks to the Super-LumiNOVA applied to Arabic numerals and hands on the dial, the night time legibility is also excellent. The dial features the Longines logo on the top and 5 stars, the symbol of perfection, at the bottom as well as the chronometer text. My only criticism about the dial is about the date window at 3 o'clock. In the 40mm version, only the date window is included in this location, and in 42mm, part of the 3 o’clock marker has been added to the dial due to the increasing size. Yes, the date display is a very useful complication, but I believe that a full indexed and non-date version of the same watch will be much more balanced to the eye. Finally, the case back of the watch is solid to suit a pilot's watch.
Longines Spirit beats with the automatic Caliber L888.4 movement produced in-house. The movement with hour, minute, second and date features has 21 jewels and offers 64 hours of power reserve. The movement with a frequency of 25200vph, which is familiar for the brands in the Swatch group yet extraordinary for the rest of the industry, is COSC certified.
In addition to brown leather and NATO straps, the Longines Spirit models, which are also available with stainless steel bracelet options, have 18 variations, including three-handers and chronographs in two different case diameters and three different dial colors.
