New Rolex models will be introduced on April 7, 2021. The promotional film published on the brand's website contains clues about one of the new models that will be introduced a few days later.
The nature images in the promotional film showing the northern lights, mountains, and an adventurer descending into a cave strengthen the possibility of the new model being an Explorer version. Besides, the double-lock Oysterclasp bracelet buckle in the short video and the Twinlock crown used in watches offering a water resistance value of up to 100 meters also reinforce the Explorer predictions.
As is known, the current Explorer models, Ref. 214270 and Ref. 216570, are available in 39mm and 42mm cases in stainless steel. If the predictions are correct, we can find the movement that we are used to seeing in the GMT-Master 2 models, with updated details and increased power reserve, in the new 42mm Explorer 2 model. Also, the ceramic insert bezel is among the possible changes.
At the end of the day, it is difficult to predict whether there will be a change in the size of the models. The Explorer 2's 42mm size is already an oversized value for Rolex standards. Some minor changes to be applied to the case form seem more likely. In particular, we will find out in a few days whether the orange GMT hand of the Explorer 2 model will keep its old color or not.
