Since its establishment, Panerai has been living with the concept of maritime. The famous Italian origin watchmaker is once again in Horobox with two different models designed for the 35th American Cup sailing competition.
Officine Panerai, which was first known with its timepieces exclusively made for the Italian Navy, introduced a new collection of watches dedicated to the 35th America’s Cup racing –one of the most prestigious organizations of the world of sailing sports. We are here with two different models from the new collection which was debuted at the SIHH 2017 exhibition.
The first model we have here is the Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio 47mm. The new model, which is added to the product line with the Reference PAM00726, is offered in a 47mm diameter Luminor 1950 style case. The titanium case sports a domed scratch resistant crystal on the front side and a solid titanium cover on the back side with an engraving about the 35th America’s Cup organization. The case is water resistant to 100 meters.
PAM00726 also features the red and blue color scheme which is seen on the rest of the collection as well. The central chronograph seconds hand is finished in blue for better legibility and the center minutes hand is finished in red. The sub dial located at 9 displays the running small seconds with a blue hand and the other one at 3 o’clock reads the elapsed time in hours with a red hand. The scales for Regatta count down and speed measurement are printed on the inner bezel. The signature detail of the collection America’s Cup writing is present on the dial.
The model is powered with the Caliber Ref. P.9100 / R. Self-winding movement beats at 28800vph and offers a power reserve of 3 days when fully wound. The movement is equipped with a Flyback chronograph function capable of Regatta count down. The function is activated through the pusher at 4o’clock and it is adjusted to count down in 1 minute intervals to set the suitable start position.
Panerai Luminor 1950 Regatta Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio 47mm comes on a matte black calf skin a strap with contrasting red and blue stitching in line with the overall color scheme. The strap is secured with a titanium clasp.
The other model we have selected for you from the Panerai America’s Cup collection is Panerai Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 days Acciaio 44mm. PAM00724 is based on the PAM00510 which considered to be one of the most successful models of the brand’s recent creations.
The new model comes in a 44mm Luminor Marina type case made of stainless steel. Unlike other models in the collection, the case is water resistant to 300 meters. Sporting a domed scratch proof sapphire crystal on the front face, the case features a solid caseback with an embossed 35th America’s Cup dedication figure.
The distinctive features of the PAM00724 is the blue hand small seconds sub dial and the America’s Cup writing that is finished in blue again.
One of the other distinctive features of the Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 days Acciaio 44mm is its movement. Unlike the other versions in the new 35th America’s Cup collection, the model is powered with a hand-wound caliber. Powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber Ref. P.5000, the model offers an impressive power reserve of 8 Days.
The PAM00724 comes with a black leather strap with red and blue stitches as in the other America’s Cup versions in the product line. This time the strap is secured with a tang buckle made of stainless steel.
The Special Edition concept is a very successful concept for many brands used for bringing heat to their existing product lines and/or aiming for the customers who want exclusivity with their choices. Even among luxury watchmakers, there are some brands that overdo the concept. However, Panerai is not one of them and the America’s Cup Collection is a brilliant work featuring brand new models based on popular versions with a nicely balanced exclusiveness through a prestigious event.
