Another Jazz Edition timepiece, designed exclusively for the living jazz legend James Morrison, is preparing to meet the watch enthusiasts.
Oris is one of my favorite brands with its design, artisanship and price tag. The workshop continues with the concept of ‘jazz watches’, which started in 1996 with Andy Sheppard. It is well known that Ulrich Herzog, the chairman of the board, who previously sponsored the London Jazz Festival, is a great jazz enthusiast. The brand, which recently introduced the Oris Art Blakey Limited Edition model, is now saluting the jazz lovers with its new model designed for James Morrison, one of the living jazz legends.
The Oris James Morrison Academy of Music Limited Edition comes with a deep blue dial. One end of the brass tone second hand refers to the fingers touching the trumpet and the tuning fork. The stylized numerals are positioned to form a circle on the dial.
The new model comes in a 38mm diameter and 30 meters water resistant stainless steel case equipped with a double anti-glare coated sapphire crystal as well as a solid case back featuring the logo of ‘James Morrison Academy of Music’ (AoM) school founded by 57-year-old multi-instrumentalist Morrison.
Inside the case is the Sellita SW200-1 based Caliber 733 equipped with the brand signature red oscillating rotor. I am sure all watch aficionados are very familiar with this bi-directional self-winding, 38 hours power reserve movement.
The model, which is limited to 1,234 pieces, is completed with a black leather strap and stainless steel buckle. The price is CHF 2,000.
The Artelier collection, including the Oris James Morrison Academy of Music Limited Edition, is one of Oris’ main collections. The models in this concept are the watches that made Oris what it is today. It is a fact that the quartz crisis, which has almost vanished the Swiss watchmaking industry, has deeply affected the brand. (Who was not effected anyway?) However, unlike the lost brands Oris continues to walk to the future with confidence, by jumping through hoops.
