RJ, formerly known as Romain Jerome, is under the spotlight with Arraw The Joker, another limited model designed for DC Comics’ legendary comic book character Batman.
Limited and special models are still the most popular marketing strategies of the watch industry. This situation, which is used by many brands from different segments, continues to maintain its popularity with new models introduced every year. It is possible to come across brands that do not use the concept of limited or special watches, as well as brands that build their product line predominantly on such models. Within a wide range of themes varying from a successful brand ambassador to a famous football club, there are unique and interesting models. RJ The Joker Limited Edition, the guest of our review corner, is definitely one of them.
RJ (formerly Romain Jerome) has a very successful history in the field of special watches. The brand, which managed to create its own fan base especially with the help of their DNA concept models, still continues on the same path with the new management as well.
RJ Arraw The Joker Limited Edition is one of the limited edition models designed within the DC Entertainment brand partnership. The theme of the model, which is limited to only 100 pieces, is the Joker, the enemy of DC Comic’s legendary character, Batman. Let’s take a closer look at the model that has been designed successfully enough to be the subject of textbooks regarding the importance given to details and superior craftsmanship.
The model comes in a 45mm diameter case. Made of ultra-light Grado 5 titanium alloy, the case is equipped with an anti-glare treated scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on the front face. The bezel surrounding the crystal is home to Joker figures applied with laser-engraving technique on a matte surface adorned with circular motifs, to refer to the Joker character, the inspiration of the model. Although it is not easy to show the quality of craftsmanship on the bezel with photos, it is obviously one of the best ones I have ever seen.
The bumpers on the bezel and the ring around the screw-in titanium winding crown are made of black rubber. The solid titanium case back, which is attached to the case with miniature screws, features a stunningly engraved Joker figure. The lugs are partially perforated and filled with composite rubber. I believe, the titanium push-button used for operating the easy strap change system being designed in Batman’s emblem form gives an idea about the brand’s experience in the “thematic watch”.
Finally, the model is water resistant to 100 meters / 10 bars.
It’s hard not to admire the effort spent while designing the dial to make it match with the Joker theme. The rhodium-plated and satin-brushed indexes are filled with “green emission” SuperLumiNova. Some of the markers are designed in large Arabic numerals some are inspired by the “The Joker” ace-shape. The dial is finished in plaster-textured white featuring an inner minute scale in black with contrasting seconds indication in “The Joker” color red. The central chronograph hand is finished in “The Joker” purple color. However, RJ was obviously not satisfied with that as they also added a Joker figure at the lower tip of the hand. Apparently, some brands are not contended with issuing a green version of their standard black dial model to call it a limited or special edition.
The model is powered by the RJ2042. The self-winding movement is equipped with Bi-Compax chronograph and date features. 57 jewels movement beats at a frequency of 28’800 lower / h (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of up to 42 hours when fully wound.
RJ Arraw The Joker comes with a pair of straps as one alligator and one rubber in either purple or green with stitches from the other color. All straps are secured by the same polished and satin-brushed titanium deployant buckle clasp with side plates in black composite and joint in black rubber.
The model is limited to only 100 units and is available with a list price of EUR 13’600.
