Seiko introduced the latest iteration of it hi-tech model Astron exclusively designed for the successful tennis player and long-time brand ambassador Novak Djokovic. The new model is limited to a span of 1500 units only.
The far eastern watchmaking giant is also among the manufacturers who prefer to work with celebrities and athletes as brand ambassadors. The brand, which is not as effective as its Swiss rivals when it comes to collaborating with celebrities, introduced a new limited edition timepiece dedicated to the successful tennis player and brand ambassador since 2014, Novak Djokovic.
The new model, which is a part of brand’s hi-tech Astron Collection, draws attention with its cutting edge technology features as well as its color palette which is inspired by Djokovic’s play style.
SEIKO Astron Novak Djokovic Limited Edition (Ref. SSE174J) comes in a 46.7mm diameter case that is crafted from titanium before it’s decorated with Seiko’s super-hard black coating. The case sports Aston specific and up to date design accents like the rest of the collection. However, the color combination featuring golden crown guards accented by highlights of gold on the dial, that Seiko say, was inspired by Djokovic’s “aggressive yet controlled style of play”.
On top is a black ceramic bezel, with UTC codes surrounding its outside, and the four Grand Slam cities of Paris, London, New York and Melbourne highlighted in gold to commemorate Novak’s career Grand Slam wins. The star figure at 8 o’clock on the inner chapter ring honors Novak Djokovic as one of only eight male players to achieve a career Grand Slam. The case is water resistant to 200 meters / 20 bars.
Like all other Astron models in the collection, Novak Djokovic Limited Edition (Ref. SSE174J) features a solar powered movement. Caliber 8X53 is capable of displaying precise local time at the touch of a button– via GPS signals that it receives through an under-the-dial ring antenna.
The dial that is very good at legibility at almost any occasion thanks to the Seiko’s patented LumiBrite phosphorous-applied accents. The functions shown on the dial are; two different time zones, day, date, day/night indicator and power reserve display. The model is offered on a black rubber strap secured by a black coated titanium folding clasp.
