Ulysse Nardin, who owns a unique fan base with its models inspired by the seas, was one of the favorite brands of the fair with its new model Deep Dive which attracted attention not only aesthetically but also with its functional features.
The model comes in a titanium case measuring 46mm in diameter. Thanks to the lightweight structure of titanium, the model wears comfortably on the wrist despite its size. The case is equipped with an anti-glare coated scratch resistant sapphire crystal on the front face that is surrounded by a diver’s bezel with sharp edges that allows to be rotated by wet and/or gloved hands. The bezel is also made of titanium with a rubber insert in matching blue.
One of the most striking details of the case, besides its massive size, is the winding crown protected with a large crown guard piece at 2 o’clock. The winding crown is accompanied with a Helium Release Valve located at 9 o’clock that is designed similarly. The crown guard is decorated with a Hammerhead Shark motif which is also found in the dial. As we are familiar with the Maxi Marine and Maxi Marine Diver series, the solid titanium caseback, which features an embossed Hammerhead Shark figure, is fixed to the case with miniature screws. The case is water resistant to 1000 meters.
The new models blue dial features slightly embossed Hammerhead Shark figures on a striped surface. The small seconds counter is located between 5 and 6 o’clock divided into four sections with a contrasting color scheme. This design detail offers improved legibility as well as a sportier look. Thanks to the Super-LumiNova® applied large hands and indices, the dial offers perfect legibility almost at any occasion. The date display window, which is the only extra feature of the model besides time keeping, is located at 3 o’clock.
Ulysse Nardin Deep Dive is powered by the in-house Caliber UN-320. Self-winding movement features cutting edge details like a silicon balance spring (pioneered by Ulysse Nardin) and offers a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound.
The new model comes on the classic multi-piece rubber strap which became a signature design for the brand. Finished in matching blue, the rubber strap is secured by an Ulysse Nardin signed folding clasp made of titanium which is equipped with an easy adjustment system for diving suits.
Personally, I really like the model. The small details that reference to the thematic concept of the watch are the core reasons for my decision. Despite being unable to wear it on a daily basis for obvious reasons, I would still love to have the Ulysse Nardin Deep Dive incase I’d go shopping for a heavy-duty diver for my collection.
