Zenith introduced another new model designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its legendary model family El Primero. The new model is a faithful remake of the original Ref. A384 model introduced in 1969.
The legend of Zenith El Primero celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The model family, which also holds an important title such as the first self-winding column chronograph watch of traditional luxury watchmaking, continues to attract attention with its new versions emphasizing this meaningful anniversary. The latest model introduced by the well-established brand to watch lovers in this context is a faithful remake of the original Ref. A384 model.
Zenith El Primero Vintage Model - 1969
Before talking about the new model, let me remind you the models introduced in 1969 that are equipped with the legendary El Primero 3019 PHC were the references A384, A385, and A386 respectively. Of course, the most prominent version of those three models is the A386. The model, which has become one of the most popular automatic chronographs of all time with its simple round case and three-color chronograph sub-dials, is among the indispensable parts of the collections today.
The Zenith El Primero A384 Revival comes with a stainless steel case designed identical to the original model. Measuring 37mm in diameter and 12.6mm in height, the case takes us back to 1969 with its sunray patterned front and thick, beveled lugs. Both sides of the case are equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals. Accompanied by a large winding crown and piston-style chronograph buttons, the case’s water-resistance level is set at 100 meters / 10 bar, which is sufficient for a modern sports chronograph.
The dial of the model is designed in Panda style that marked the 70s with its color palette featuring dark chronograph counters on contrasting lighter color background. With its black tachymetric scale and black white hands, the Tri-Compax chronograph dial offers excellent legibility. The center chronograph second hand finished in red is also among the details that refer to the original model.
Zenith El Primero A384 Revival is powered by the modern Caliber 400, which we are familiar with from the other models in the current El Primero collection. Operating in a frequency of 5Hz (36.000vph), a signature feature of El Primero movements, the self-winding caliber offers a power reserve of 50 hours when fully wound.
The new model comes with two strap/bracelet options as a black alligator strap and a ladder style stainless steel bracelet that mimics the original model’s bracelet designed by the legendary brand Gay Frères in 1969. The model, which is scheduled to hit the sales points as of October 2019, will be the most accessible alternative among the series designed to commemorate El Primero’s 50th anniversary due to being a standard production and stainless steel timepiece.
