Jacob & Co. Astronomia Alec Monopoly

Jacob & Co. Astronomia Alec Monopoly

Jacob & Co., one of the leading names in exotic models, added a new model to its successful representative in the Haute Horlorgerie category, the Astronomia Collection. The model, which is limited to only 9 pieces, bears the signature of the famous artist and painter Alec Monopoly.

The new model includes many artistic crafts within the Astronomia concept. The case of the model, which offers a miniature Terrarium look, measures 50mm in diameter and 25mm in height. The highly domed sapphire crystal on the front of the 18K pink gold case is accompanied by sapphire crystal openings on the side of the case as well as a see-through case back. The case, which reveals all the components of the watch, sports a winding crown located at its rear side.

Inside the model, there is a dial made of black aventurine material. The dial, which resembles a starry sky with its background pattern, has four fully rotating hands. The Roman numeral hour marker sub-dial, equipped with green hands, displays the time. In addition to all this, components made up of “money-themed” characters make the model look like it oscillates between the exotic and the absurd.

Among the figures, completely hand-painted and painted by Alec Monopoly, the first to draw attention is the Alec Monopoly figure with his arms outstretched and adorned with dollar bills. Next the Scrooge McDuck, whom we know from the Donald Duck comics, stands out. Right next to him, Mr. Monopoly,  from the board game, holding a melting pink dollar-sign ice-cream cone. Finally, the unique dial hosts a dollar sign stylized with colors and illustrations.

Besides these interesting details, the dial also includes details such as the world figure made of magnesium and lacquered by hand and a Jacob-cut 1ct spherical diamond with 288 facets on its surface.

The new model beats with the manufacture Caliber JCAM25. The manual-winding movement, whose almost every component is handcrafted following high watchmaking standards, gives life to the satellite type display and also hosts an extreme complication such as the double-axis Tourbillon.

The list price for the model, which comes with a hand-stitched black alligator strap and an 18K rose gold folding clasp, is USD 600,000 (US list price).
